With the family, identify the best time and place for a successful Intervention. Provide a list of treatment centers that would be appropriate for their loved one.
Contact the treatment centers preferred by the family, and review the case with them. Recommend a treatment setting which will best suit the specific needs of the individual. Coordinate with the professional team at the treatment center the cost and key clinical components for the potential client and expedite the admission process - Preparation - Meet with family and friends to review the essential elements for a successful Intervention. Review and edit letters written by the group. Review “chemical dependency indicators” lists prepared by the group. Describe to each member of the group his or her role in the Intervention. Work with the group to clarify any concerns or considerations they might have which would detract from the primary focus of the Intervention. Work with the group to counter any objections the client may offer as reasons not to go to treatment (job demands, family needs, financial obligations, scheduling problems, etc.) Discuss with escort team the critical logistics of delivering the client to treatment.
- Intervention - Meet at a rendezvous destination for encouragement, review key objectives, and answer last minute questions from the group. Coordinate the vital “unified approach” of all concerned. Bring family and friends tothe client in a formal Intervention, the goal of which is to request the client seek treatment that day. Remain flexible for any unexpected changes; i.e., client not available at appointed location, unexpected interruptions, etc.
- Post Intervention - Debrief with the group after the Intervention is complete. Continue to follow up with members of the Intervention group on an as-needed basis. Interact with the treatment team at the facility to ensure client is participating in the master treatment plan. Ensure that family receives family participation information from the treatment center and that a counselor has contacted the family. Be available to assist family throughout the first 10 days after the Intervention in any areas of their concern.
This four-phase process generally takes 25 to 30 hours spreadout over a period of 1-4 weeks, depending on the case.
Services provided include telephone consultations, research time, coordination with treatment facilities, preparation, the Intervention itself, and debriefing meetings. Ready to free yourself and your family from the bonds of addiction, dangerous behavior, or alcohol and alcoholism?
