Heart of the Matter

Because family members often focus family resources on the addicted person, the rest of the family can live emotionally lonely, confused and isolated lives; they need help, too. They often feel as if they are causing the addiction and fueling negative behaviors. Feelings of confusion, guilt and blame are common.

To address these feelings, Addiction Intervention Inc. has designed a focused approach for families to receive the same detailed follow-up and continued care as the alcoholic or addict returning from treatment. The unique Heart of the Matter umbrella program encompasses re-integration for all affected family members, including the addict. Through this program, we support the treatment team in healing the addict and guide the family in the process of detachment in order to focus on themselves. Using Family Assist, we identify recovery resources for family members to assure success.

Family Assist focuses on recovery for all affected family members after the addict's treatment is completed. Sometimes family members need personal counseling, after-care programs and support systems, both therapeutic and Twelve Step models, designed to address their needs after many years of focus on the addicted family member. We offer referral sources to support group meetings and services for the whole family and have a large network of therapeutic sources able to help each family's particular challenges. Together with the Heart of the Matter services, the entire family's health and healing is assured.
