Interventions

Planning and conducting a non-confrontational Intervention is the key component of Addiction Intervention Inc.'s successful approach to family recovery. We take the family out of isolation and, through careful planning and coaching: take the weight of the alcoholic problem off the family's shoulders. The Intervention process has to be flexible, but our approach has provided solutions for thousands of families over the years. This step by step description may help to better describe what to expect in this process. Once the family has agreed that an Intervention should take place, our office directs, coordinates and provides these essential services:

  1. Assessment: After an initial phone consultation, we agree on who should participate and invite selected family members, friends and business colleagues (if appropriate) to join in the process. We gather the individual's medical, psychological and addiction history; and develop a comprehensive plan for intervention and treatment with a special emphasis on the family. At this point, we determine which Intervention model to use to assure a successful outcome.

  2. Coordination: We put the plan into action, scheduling the intervention; helping to coordinate planning for all participants; recommending and contacting selected treatment centers; working with the professionals at the centers on admission availability, cost and clinical needs of the patient and family; and expediting the admission process.

  3. Preparation: We meet with all participants to resolve logistical issues and any possible objections to treatment (job demands, family needs, financial obligations, scheduling problems, etc.); identify intervention roles and responsibilities; coach participants on what to expect; and describe to each member of the group his or her role in the Intervention. Alternatively, in the Arise Model, there is less scripted preparation and a greater engagement model developed.

  4. Intervention: In a loving, supportive setting, we present the intervention to the individual and request the client seek treatment. There can be a great variation in the specific requirements for any one family's intervention and always a need to remain flexible within the structure of this planned event.

  5. Post Intervention: We conduct ongoing family meetings, in person or by phone, and follow up with the family, the treatment facility and counselors for an optimal period of time after the Intervention to ensure achievement of the family treatment plan. We remain available throughout treatment to address client and family concerns. And, using our unique Heart of the Matter program design treatment options and follow up care (as necessary) for all concerned family members.

Although utilizing a very structured approach, Laura's ability to remain flexible and responsive to the elements of surprise that can happen during the intervention process make her an excellent leader during a potentially highly charged, emotional experience. The process can take from 20 to 40 hours spread out over a period of 1–4 weeks, depending on the unique circumstances of each family. Services provided include telephone consultations, face to face meetings, research time, coordination with treatment facilities, preparation, the family intervention meeting, and follow up care.

Motivational intervention encourages individuals in crisis to seek help after friends and family – in a loving, non-confrontational way – present their concerns and support. Now is the time to get help.
